Dalton students and faculty travelled to Paris in March, the first volley in an exchange with students and families from l'Ecole Alsacienne, whose students will complete the exchange when they arrive at Dalton during the week of April 23, 2012. The students began their trip by meeting with David Stern '81, a conductor for orchestras in Paris and Tel Aviv.
Each afternoon the Dalton students explored neighborhoods and monuments in Paris: the Eiffel Tower, Napoleon's tomb at the Invalides, the Louvre and Rodin museums, the Hôtel de Sully and Place des Vosges in the Marais, the Sainte-Chapelle and Notre-Dame churches, the Pantheon (to see the famous people buried in the crypt), the Pompidou center for contemporary art, Roman ruins (Arènes de Lutèce), and the collection of medieval art and artifacts at the Cluny museum. They spent a day in the Palace and gardens at Versailles, and another trekking up to Montmartre to see the Sacré-Coeur church and the house (now a museum) where Renoir and others painted.
