Dalton Girls Come Together for an Outstanding Performance at NYS Girls Chess Championships
Twenty Dalton girls in grades K-9 represented Dalton to compete in the New York State Girls Chess Championship. Gathering the largest girl chess players from all NYS schools, Dalton squared off against almost 500 of New York State’s top chess players.
Led by Head Coach and Women International Master (WIM) Beatriz Marinello, Dalton’s coaching staff included Chess Expert Adia Onyango and Co-Head of the Dalton Chess Girls Initiative Lauren Nam ‘26.
It was wonderful to see the girls come together as a team. What an exciting opportunity and experience for all of the girls as they continue to build skills and achieve success. Seeing the delight on the girls’ faces as they finished their games and cheered on their teammates was extraordinary. As we spent the day together, you could see friendships blossom and our Dalton girls chess community grow. Go, Team Dalton!

This was a special tournament for many participants who were competing in a chess tournament for the first time and putting their new learnings into practice. The future looks bright for the Dalton Girls Chess Team.
