The Whiskey Bravo Club Helps Honor Veterans Day in High School Assembly with Former US Marine and Team Rubicon Founder William McNulty
To honor Veterans Day, Dalton’s Whiskey Bravo Club arranged a special HS Assembly with William McNulty, co-founder of the international disaster relief organization Team Rubicon.
Mr. McNulty, a former U.S. Marine who served in both the infantry and intelligence, joined high school community members to share stories about his military experiences and his life dedicated to service. Mr. McNulty’s presentation focused on Team Rubicon’s commitment to providing relief efforts through disaster response. These veteran-led missions aim to help restore communities affected by humanitarian crises such as earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, and wildfires in the United States and abroad. Since its founding, Team Rubicon has conducted over 300 response missions throughout the world and continue to help veterans repurpose their skills to gain a new sense of purpose and identity as they transition to civilian life. After his presentation, Mr. McNulty stayed to answer students’ questions about the importance of military and civilian service.
“I think it is important to understand why we honor days like today,” said Whiskey Bravo Club Head Benjamin Barkoff ’23. “I have always been inspired by Mr. McNulty and his commitment to service, not just in the military, but to all of mankind. I think it was important for the Dalton community to get a new perspective on the military, and I am thrilled that the assembly started a conversation that carried through all my classes the rest of the day. Dalton is an incredible place that challenges its students to take on world problems and Mr. McNulty exemplifies that.”
In 2015, Mr. McNulty was named a Presidential Leadership Scholar and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. His awards and honors include 2018 Humanitarian Award from the New York Global Leaders Dialogue; 2017 Honorary Ph.D. in Humane Letters from the University of Kansas; 2016 Presidential Delegation to the Invictus Games; 2015 Heinz Award for the Human Condition; 2014 Purpose Economy 100; 2012 Grinnell College Young Social Innovator of the Year; and the 2010 Johns Hopkins University Government Service Alumni Award.
The Dalton community would like to thank Mr. McNulty and the Whiskey Bravo Club for organizing this very impactful and inspiring Veterans Day assembly.
