Peter Lehner and Bob Blumer Discuss Food Sustainability at HS Assembly
As part of Dalton’s High School’s year-long Climate Crisis initiative, Earthjustice's Sustainable Food & Farming Program Director Peter Lehner and author and Food Network talent Bob Blumer presented at this Tuesday’s High School assembly.
Lehner directs Earthjustice's Sustainable Food & Farming Program, developing strategies to promote a more environmentally sound agricultural system and to reduce health, environmental, and climate harms from production of our food. He also served as chief of the Environmental Protection Bureau of the New York State Attorney General's office.
Blumer, who presented virtually on Tuesday, is a professional gastronaut with an adrenaline addiction. He has created and hosted three award-winning TV series that have aired in over 20 countries -- he was the creator and host of the pioneering Food Network shows The Surreal Gourmet, Glutton for Punishment, and the host of World's Weirdest Restaurants.
Lehner educated students on industrial-scale agriculture and environmental law during Tuesday's presentation, while Blumer addressed food waste and provided effective habits to utilize food efficiently.
More about Lehner: Lehner holds an A.B. in philosophy and mathematics from Harvard College and is an honors graduate of Columbia University Law School, where for many years he taught protection of natural resources. He now teaches a seminar on food systems and U.S. environmental law there and at Yale Law School.
More about Blumer: Blumer is the author and illustrator of seven cookbooks, including the most recent Flavorbomb: A Rogue Guide to Making Everything Taste Better. He has broken eight food-related Guinness World Records. Bob serves as an Ambassador to Second Harvest in Toronto, spreading the word about food rescue and hunger relief. He is also an ambassador for Love Food Hate Waste, a National Canadian zero-waste initiative. He currently works as a spokesperson, does appearances, develops food-related content, and recently played a character loosely based on himself in the upcoming movie The Way to the Heart.
