Food Ethnographer and YouTube Personality Inspires High School Students at APIDA Month Celebration

HS students were abuzz at this week's HS assembly as renowned content creator and food ethnographer Yiming Lin captivated students with his inspiring culinary journey. Lin, who is acclaimed for his YouTube shorts channel LiterallyStarving (with 1.8 million avid fans) — where he celebrates the diverse favorite foods of his interviewees from around the globe — took center stage for APIDA* Month.
After discovering Lin's popular YouTube channel, MS Librarian Roxanne Feldman reached out to Lin, who graciously accepted the opportunity to share his methods and techniques with the school community. A panel of Dalton Asian/Pacific Islanders faculty & staff shared their culinary favorites:
  • Associate Director of College Counseling Sai Somboon –Tom Yung Koong
  • High School History Teacher Parul Kalbag – Pav Bhaji
  • History Learning Support Specialist Oliver Murphey – Pot Stickers
  • Computer Science Department Chair Saber Khan – Biryani
  • Archivist Kris Santos – Pancit
Following the panel, Lin shared his production techniques and answered students’ questions with enthusiasm and insight, with Tayla Jacobi’s '24 helping to oversee the Q&As.

*APIDA stands for Asian Pacific Islander Desi American, encompassing a diverse group of people with roots in Asia, the Pacific Islands, and South Asia (Desi).
