Dalton Basketball Kicks Off Season with Strong Showings at the Dalton Invitational
The Dalton Basketball teams began their seasons with strong performances, hosting Avenues, Grace Church, and Packer Collegiate in the Dalton Invitational.
Both the Boys and Girls teams finished the week 3-0, securing tournament titles on Saturday, December 7. Opening rounds took place on Thursday, December 5, and Friday, December 6.
The Boys team opened the season with a 51-point victory over Loyola, fueled by 11 three-pointers, including eight in the first half. They carried that momentum into the Invitational, posting consecutive 20-plus-point wins against Grace and Avenues. In the first-round game against Grace, four players scored in double figures. The championship game against Avenues saw Dalton lock down defensively, holding Avenues to just 24 points over the final three quarters after a high-scoring opening period. Junior Noah Khalid led the team throughout the week, averaging 23 points over three games, including 32 in the final.
The Girls team also delivered a strong start, defeating Earl Monroe New Renaissance in their season opener before claiming victories over Avenues and Packer in the Invitational. Against Avenues, senior Izzy Wesley contributed a standout performance with 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists in a 58-14 win. In the final against Packer, the team relied on balanced scoring, with 10 players contributing, and a dominant defense that limited Packer to just six first-half points. The team’s victories extended their winning streak to 41 games, dating back to the 2022-23 season.
