Big Dalton Mentors Little Dalton During a Week of Creative Coding!
First Program was filled with energy and excitement during Code Lab '24, an event coordinated by New Lab, Science, Computer Science, and Engineering, aimed at bringing Big Dalton and Little Dalton together to coach and inspire First Program coders.
Over 300 students from 8th-12th grade visited First Program, and together they programmed drones, mouse robots, and a micro-computer, and built a marble-powered computer. With each Assignment, students learned computational ideas such as variables and conditions, shared problem-solving strategies, persevered when faced with unexpected bugs or challenges, and developed cross-divisional connections.
A common theme was the fun students had collaborating. Big Dalton students enjoyed tinkering and learning alongside First Programmers, while the youngest Daltonians enjoyed problem-solving and working on different solutions when they hit inevitable coding bugs.
Please enjoy this video montage that captures some of the energy and joy experienced during Code Lab ‘24.
