The New Lab for Teaching and Learning (NLTL) was created to explore how computers and advanced information technologies can help build the schools of tomorrow. The mission today of NLTL is to support and enhance the practice of The Dalton Plan through the purposeful and innovative use of technology.
Beyond that, faculty and students rely on NLTL as they form partnerships in creating projects to pursuing new curricular ideas that in turn facilitate new teaching ideas and practices.
There are currently twelve members of the NLTL staff. Technical support positions, such as hardware repair, network administrators, and database personnel constitute a portion. The other part of the staff, educational technologists, are curricular specialists. Many members of NLTL also serve as House advisors, coaches, after-school teachers, and club supervisors. The staff communicates and regularly collaborates with professionals at other schools and businesses, and attends conferences to further their professional expertise. The staff have a diverse range of talents and expertise that facilitate their ability to work with the faculty and staff at Dalton.
The NLTL is responsible for all of the technical, administrative, classroom, and curricular support of technology at The Dalton School. NLTL provides a range of services to the Dalton community, beginning with a stable, safe, and reliable technological environment for student and faculty to explore, discover, learn, develop, and create.
NLTL is responsible for reliable network, audio-visual, and phone operations. Also, NLTL is responsible for providing reliable systems for reporting and administrative operations, day-to-day communication like email and website.
NLTL also provides teacher and staff professional growth opportunities through summer and school-year workshops and programs. During this time, teachers learn both technical skills and strategies for purposeful, appropriate, and innovative uses of technology in teaching and learning.
