Michelle Marcus earned a Ph.D. in Art History from the University of Pennsylvania, and an MA in Art History and Archaeology from Columbia University. Before becoming the Resident Art Historian and Museum Educator at the Dalton School, she split her time between college teaching, curatorial consulting, and writing about the art and archaeology of the ancient Near East. Her academic publications include one book and numerous articles in such peer-reviewed journals as Art Bulletin, Art History, and Oxford Art Journal – all supported by post-doctoral fellowships from the Metropolitan Museum, the Getty Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. She is currently preparing a publication about the uses of the past in contemporary art, based on a paper delivered recently to the College Art Association.
